Organized by the IE School of Humanities, in collaboration with the IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs, the Global Consumerism: Past, Present & Future series aims to examine the historical and economic impact of key global commodities, such as chocolate and coffee, through expert-led discussions.
This session explores the global history of chocolate, tracing its economic and cultural significance. Dr. Nikita Harwich, a French-Venezuelan economist and historian, specializes in Latin American economic history and the trade of raw materials, including chocolate, to which he has dedicated extensive research and a published book History of Chocolate. He is a retired professor at Université Paris Nanterre and a member of the French Academy of Chocolate and Confectionery.
